Bout of Books 11 – Goals and Updates

Bout of Books

How cool is this?  A week-long challenge to see how many books I can finish in a week?  Count me in!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Time Devoted to Reading

I will be reading (hopefully) about four hours each day (though likely in fifteen to thirty minute bursts).

My Goal

My goal is to get caught up on my ARCs.  I have nine unread ARCs (I just can’t seem to keep myself from requesting them).  I’m partway through three of them, so it’s about the equivalent of finishing six books over the course of the week.  I finish five books in an average week, so I think this is doable.

Books to Read

  • Better Than Perfect by Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo
  • Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes
  • Trapped at the Altar by Jane Feather
  • Queen of Someday by Sherry D. Ficklin
  • I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga
  • Just Mercy by Brian Stevenson
  • Nest by Esther Erlick
  • Be Rebellious by Megan Clinton
  • How We Fall by Kate Brauning

Much Love to Angela at Angela’s Anxious Life.  I learned about Bout of Books from her fabulous blog.

  1. I am so excited that you are joining!! I have always had soooo much fun with Bout of Books. I think you are going to have a ton of fun. Visiting lots of blogs and doing the challenges is also a great break from reading. AND I love that it is a week long instead of the 24 hour readathon. Good luck!

I don’t think I could have handled a 24 hour readathon. A week is nice; gives the weekend to pick up any slack from the rest of the week. I do love visiting other blogs. When I first started out in 2011 I had no idea that visiting other blogs was something I should do. And I was so missing out!

      Good luck to you too!

  2. Good luck with you’re reading challenge! I’m currently doing the Beat the Heat Readathon which is until Sept. 1st. So far I’m behind on my goal because of some unexpected happenings in life, but I plan to catch up with it. Have fun! 🙂

That’s a rather long readathon. Since this is my first time, I think a week is a good start. Hope you catch up!

  3. That is one great challenge! Five books per week usually? That’s wow-worthy! Also, I am sure you’ll achieve your goal of 6!! So happy you’re going to read Queen of Someday for I loved it and will even be doing an interview with the author. Yay! Hope you enjoy it.

Im excited about Queen of Someday as well. I’ll be sure to check out your interview!

Nice goal. In a normal week, I tend to finish 3 books (on average), but I’ve been reading more slowly lately. I’d love to finish 5 books during the read-a-thon. I’ll be checking in through the week to see how you are progressing.

    1. Leila

Five is a great goal. I’m actually not at all confident it my ability to fulfill my goal. Performance anxiety (maybe)?

I’ll be visiting you as well. 🙂

  5. Hey, you are doing pretty alright! I think it’s a great goal to get caught up on your ARCs. I have stopped using Netgalley because I requested a lot and never read them haha. Oh well! Happy reading! #readstrong

I couldn’t bring myself to stop using NetGalley altogether, just forcing myself to get caught up and not let my review ratio fall below 80% again. I enjoy the free books (far far in advance of when I’d be able to get them from the library) far too much.

Checking back in as promised. The “Hot Scots Saturday” sounds appealing. One of my favorite authors is Alexander McCall Smith.

    1. Leila

Do please participate in Hot Scot Saturday. I don’t think there’s any way it wont be fun.

  7. OK.. so I kinda failed at Bout of Books this time around. What can I say??? Just didn’t have the time I thought I was going to. Such a bummmer!

    1. Leila

Ah well. At least we finished. I noticed the linkies dropped by half by the end.
